History

Math Attack Society is a student-run non-profit startup, co-founded by four passionate high school students: Kevin, Ruilin, Riri and Oliver.

December 9th, 2017, the Calgary Junior High Team Math Attack (CJHTMA) held their inaugural event at the University of Calgary with the help of Dr. Joseph Ling and Dr. Robert Woodrow from the University of Calgary’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics. It hosted 69 students, whose grades ranged from 6 to 9.

The Edmonton Junior High Team Math Contest (EJHTMC) was independently organized on a similar premise to the CJHTMA. This contest garnered over hundreds of participants from grades 4 to 9. Proctored by Mr. Trevor Pasanen and Dr. Sean Graves, the competition was hosted at the JAMES Math Circle at the University of Alberta.

After realizing that these two competitions pursued the same overall goal, the two leadership teams merged in June 2018 to form the Alberta Team Math Attack.

With more than 1000 students participating in our programs in the last two years, we strive to offer a unique math contest and mentoring experience, one defined by teamwork and dedication.

Our various mentoring programs were provided by our team to connect our Canadian youth with math, science, and technology. Participants formed strong bonds, with a diverse group of junior high students, Senior high school students, university students, and community members coming together in the spirit of collaboration and mathematic passion.
